Classic Tomato Bruschetta Recipe

Bruschetta

An antipasto dish, bruschetta has grilled bread topped with veggies, rubbed garlic and tomato mix. A country bread sliced and topped with different toppings - the evergreen tomato-basil and an inventive mushroom-garlic. The classic Italian starter!

Here's a classic recipe:

Ingredients:

  • -1 French baguette or Italian bread, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
  • - 4-5 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • - 1/4 cup of fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • - 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • - 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • - 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • - Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Place the sliced bread on a baking sheet and brush each piece lightly with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until the bread slices are toasted and slightly crispy.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure all the ingredients are evenly combined. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.

4. Remove the toasted bread slices from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two.

5. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each bread slice. You can pile it high or spread it evenly, depending on your preference.

6. Serve immediately as an appetizer or snack. Bruschetta is best enjoyed fresh when the bread is still warm and crispy.

You can also add variations to your bruschetta by incorporating ingredients like mozzarella cheese, sliced olives, or drizzling some balsamic glaze on top. It's a versatile dish that you can customize to your liking. Enjoy your homemade bruschetta!
